Walt Disney World 1971 Pre Opening Blue 1st Preview Center Vintage License Plate. 100% Genuine Original from the pre-opening of Walt Disney Word. True piece of Disney history with the Banned, Pulled Blue Walt Disney World Pre-Opening License Plate. This is the 1st ever Walt Disney World license plate released prior to the opening of the park in 1971 that was quickly pulled from the shelves. This is the blue version that was only released at the Preview Center prior to the park opening before it quickly came under fire by the State of Florida. Prior to the opening of the Magic Kingdom Park, Disney produced this commemorative plate announcing the opening date but what they failed to realize it was designed too close to the design of the actual official Florida License plate at the time. Extremely Rare, Banned and Pulled from Production. Only very few of these Blue Versions of the License Plate were released as it became a problem with the State of Florida and was quickly pulled from the preview center. Amazing piece of Walt Disney World History. Florida State Gives Disney Trouble Over This Blue License Plate Design. The WDW Preview Center was open from January 10, 1970 to September 30, 1971. It wasn’t long before the plate proved to be troublesome. The similarity was causing enough problems that Disney withdrew the plate from sale. Another opening day plate was created, but with a green background. The problems with the first Disney license plate may have caused Disney to be hesitant in producing more plates. Very few plates were made after the opening of the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. It wouldn’t be until 1981, for the opening of the second park, Epcot Center, at Disney World, that plates would be made on a regular basis.
